Profile

"There is one simple way that I can describe my creative process –enjoyable! While I certainly do research the subject matter for my paintings, the actual creation process has to be enjoyable for me, not just the end result. All of my art has an uplifting and happy energy. " Sheryl

Current Work:
After a long duration of experimentation, Sheryl landed a very unique style that combines acrylic paint, paper, pastel and marker on canvas. All of the paintings are vibrant and energetic and a true reflection of Sheryl’s strong passion for nature, and a desire to focus on optimistic methods of creating “green” urban environments. Although much of the work is based on prior research regarding the subject, the actual paintings are created with a combination of “fact” and “fiction,” often altering the true life colours to suit the mood of the painting. All of the urban cites, birds, nests, and landscape trees are created by incorporating collage elements: layering paper, gel medium, marker and pastel, and finalizing the technique by sealing the paper with varnish. The urban-landscapes are designed with texture in mind, as well as vibrant brighter than real life buildings and store fronts. It really is a city that one would actually want to live, work, and play in. And the ultimate focus is a blend of architectural elements, green-landscapes, gardens, trees and green roofs. The urban cities are all a mixture of fact and fiction, with a definitive focus on the improvement of city life and environmental innovations. Sheryl became deeply inspired to develop a positive outlook on our global environmental state. “Yes, we are all well aware that we are in desperate need to turn around, negative impacts on the environment, but I feel that too much focus on the harm that we have already done can make people feel a sense of apathy rather than a sense of excitement to create change"
